The most common cause of hair loss in men is androgenetic alopecia, also known as male pattern baldness. This is a hereditary condition that is caused by a combination of genetics and hormones. Androgenetic alopecia can also affect women, but it is less common.
Other causes of hair loss include:
- Telogen effluvium: This is a temporary form of hair loss that can be caused by stress, illness, or certain medications.
- Alopecia areata: This is an autoimmune disorder that causes hair to fall out in patches.
- Traction alopecia: This is caused by pulling or rubbing the hair, such as from tight hairstyles or hair extensions.
- Trichotillomania: This is a mental disorder that causes people to pull out their own hair.
